How hard is Chulu West climbing?

Chulu West is considered a challenging 6,000-metre peak in the Annapurna Region. The ascent is graded as alpine grade PD in the alpine grading system. That means the route involves some technical climbing sections and glaciers of higher difficulty. The summit day is always the longest and toughest period of the itinerary, so climbers must be physically fit. All the training you’ve done, your determination, mental resilience, and your strong spirit for a real challenge will guide you through the last day and to the summit.

What training is needed for Chulu West climb?

For Chulu West climbing, it is important to build cardiovascular endurance and strength through aerobic exercises and strength training. Engaging in long hikes while carrying a backpack can also contribute to your preparation for the climb. Also, during the expedition, you will be able to learn with our guides the basic mountaineering techniques used for the climb. We want to make sure our clients come to Nepal with the right physical and technical preparations.

When is the best time to attempt Chulu West?

The best periods to attempt Chulu West are spring (March, April, and May) and autumn (September, October, and November). The weather during these times in the Himalayan region remains stable, which is perfect for adventure activities.

What is the guide to client ration?

On the Chulu West climbing trip, we provide two different options. The one is a 1:3 guide-to-client ratio, and the other is 1:1 private guiding. In both options, there will be one IFMGA lead guide and a Sherpa guide to assist you during the climb.
